Tatabanya Bird

Today is Wednesday and we went to see the large bird statue in Tatabanya, it was said to lead the people of Hungary from danger. There were also caves.... I think it was a test for us to take the children who have had no experiences (not even those from their own town) and let them walk near an open cliff. We were a bit freaked out and hurried to the cave. As soon as the kids began to climb we were ready to go..... it's an awkward feeling to have so many adults following and hoping they approve of your parenting. It's even more awkward when the kids ask for something and you don't respond so they go to the next adult.LOL. There are a lot of Chiefs.....

We ate in a restuarant for lunch and we were told it was their first time to ever eat in one before. They were angels! They were so excited to order from a menu...... they wanted to eat whatever Andy ate. Z has become quite the daddy's girl. While she was eating she told our coordinator it was the best lunch she ever had.

When the waiter brought out the silverware, she passed it out to everyone with napkins and set the table. It's obvious she is a helper at home. She likes everything neat and tidy. How did we get so lucky! When Andy had an empty glass she got up, grabbed his coke bottle and began to pour more for him. She made a little signal with her hand like Ta Da and bowed, it was priceless. After that, my drink was low she asked Andrea if she could have her water to pour me some more.  When the waiter cleared the table, he dropped a butter knife. She picked it up and ran after him to hand it to him. She is so kind and considerate.

We took a train ride around the town of Tatabanya and the kids loved it! It was called the Happy Train...only it was very rough! On the ride home, N kept saying he felt sick..... When he got out of the car, he vomited all over the road. My first helpless experience as we are living out of backpacks right now and have NOTHING! No more ice cream before we get into the car...... Hungarian driving is a bit nutty. I have felt nauseous a few times myself..... specially when we were following behind an ancient logging truck with a flat tire and the back load trailer was waving back and forth on the road. I thought to myself several times we had a 50 50 shot at making it before it rolled out on top of us. Odds were in our favor.......

When we left, N ran to the edge of the yard to wave as if he thought we might not be coming-back because of his sisters tiny tantrum. He was sure to tell the foster mom "there was a problem" when we arrived home. LOL

Each day we are greeted with a hug and a kiss.

I miss Chip and hope he does not know of the time

  1. Your comments about the cliffs made me think of how I felt when you were just a little girl. You wanted (and I have no idea why) to climb over the top of a small waterfall and your Dad let you do it. I still think about how afraid I was watching you (with your Dad following) climb over that silly waterfall.

  2. It didn't help poor Mom that your horrible sister kept screaming up at you " you know, you're going to fall off of there and DIE, I heard Mom say so !!!"

Love you & am 100% certain you & Andy are the most capable & qualified parents for some adventuresome kids ; )
